How it all began

Hi! My name is Amber Williams, and I developed my love for sewing at a young age when my mom taught me how to sew a button to a piece of scrap fabric. I enjoyed sewing random fabric together to see what I could create. Choosing Line and Design as my 4-H project in 4th grade was a where it all started. From citizenship activities to state competitions, I learned so much more than how to sew. I learned the importance of using my talent to help others and leadership skills that have helped me grow my sewing hobby into a full-time business.  I worked in the alterations department at David's Bridal in Johnson City while in college at ETSU. I graduated in 2017 with a bachelor's degree in Marketing/Advertising and in 2019 with a master's degree in media and communication. 

Since starting Topstitch Alterations, I’ve been serving the Tri-Cities Tennessee and Southwest Virginia area with professional alteration services specifically for bridal and special occasion dresses. Always bringing a creative and professional approach to the table, my goal is to help you look and feel your absolute best.

Growing up and even in college when asked what my 5 or 10 year plan was, sewing fulltime was never in my plan. I went to college like all my friends and figured I'd have some kind of office marketing career and sew a little on the side. But as my "side hobby" grew and we decided to start a family, I had to make a decision: stay in the safe marketing career or take a leap of faith to sew full time. I made the decision to sew full time in September 2022 and had a baby in November 2022, and my business has grown so much that I have a hard time telling people "no" when I'm booked up. Now God has blessed my husband and I with 3 beautiful children and a career that allows me to have a flexible schedule while raising and spending time with my kids! I'm living my DREAM!
